Winter Tournament Football

At our school we have had a winter tourment going on and there were different sports to choose from which were Boccia, Netball, Rugby and soccer.  I choose to play soccer. We went down to Henley school to play all those sports. In my team there were: Maximus, Rick, Wouter, Reuben, Logan, Anthony, Tim, Marcus, Luca and Ajay. Our first game was against Henley and we lost 2-1, our next game was against Richmond and we won 6-0, then we were in the finals and we lost as well, which was a shame. Then later on we watched the Saint Paul’s rugby team because they got 3rd in the competition and now they have gone further to the Regionals, which are at the end of this term on a Thursday. We wish them good luke because they will need it to pass the Regionals and maybe they will make it into inter-schools.

The winter tournament rugby

Yesterday we had are rugby sevens tournament are first game was against Bright Water we lost 2 nil.In our second game we used are move distance to nine were Daniel goes in hooker for line outs and Tyler goes out in the back line and when Daniel throws it Tyler runs on to it and catches it and runs its good for getting tries and in that game we played Henley's a team and we won 8-3.Our next game was against Wakefield the score was two all it was a pretty hard game so after that game we did some passing and kicking drills and things like that.Next we were playing against the best team in the tournament Richmond most of the players  were from my club rugby team  in that team it was hard playing them and the score was 7-1 to them it was our worst game yet. After a while when we had some more food and drink and had a talk with our coach and then it was time for  third and fourth play offs it was us against Wakefield. It was one all so we had to do golden point witch is first try wins we had the ball possession most of the game when they had it we pushed them out by the five meter line so we did distance to nine and Tyler got the ball and scored. The team wants to give a big thanks to Richard Ingls  and Steve Tolmie

Click here to see the latest weather prediction for Winter Sports day.

http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/nelson

We are forecast for showers during winter tournament.
We are erecting the school gazebo as a shelter for the forecast showers.
Bring a raincoat to school kids so you can stay warm and ready for your games.
I have found a hat ands small towel handy at tournaments as well.
See you tomorrow.
Mr Searle

PS If any parents, Aunties or Uncles could help referee a football game then please let me know..

Homework tab

See if you can find the new homework Tab.
It is below the last posting and before the Fish.
We will upload the weekly homework there each monday.
I need a volunteer to look after that; someone who is quick to get their own tasks done first!

A reward for the student who can find out how to layer pages and show tabs like on Kotuku's site.
Mr Searle.

The Makos Game

Makos

Last night the Makos played Manawatu. Kick off was at 7.30pm. The first try was scored by the Makos and they got a penalty kick and the conversion so by the firs 6 mins it was ten nil to the Makos.
Soon we went and sat on a almost deserted stand and watched the Manawatu get a try and conversion. At half time the score was 13 to 7 to the Makos and during half time some of the sponsors were slinging makos tops in a big sling shot and we almost caught one.

Then the chair leaders came out and danced next there was a race on it was people from different teams there was nelson Takaka Stoke, Waimea Old Boys and other teams and the guy from WOB won. Back to the game Manawatu won 27 to 23 and some guy from Manawatu punched Tom Marshall when he was pinned in the scrum so he got sent off.
Mr Searle was in the other stand and had a good view of that. Waimea Intermediate were the noise crew and thay did a great job of cheering.

Banking with Hollie from ASB

Banking with ASB
On Monday a lady called Hollie from the ASB bank came to Kotuku.
ASB bank’s logo is an elephant named after the Auckland zoo elephant they sponsored.
We learned that ASB stands for Auckland Savings Bank.

Hollie taught us about saving money.
Hollie said “spend some on you and save some too.”
We learned to use a Budget or ‘get what you want plan,’ to afford what you need and sometimes what you want.
For example we saved on food by making your own lunch and coffee rather than paying higher prices at the cafe.
We played a clapping game that she taught us, and it was fun.
Hollie told us two stories about money choices. She told one  story when her friends started saving for some cars, and how one person saved their money in the bank and got interest. The other one saved hers in her money box. You get paid interest if you put money in the bank so will have more in the end.
We learned that saving is like training for sport; “the earlier you start the better you do”.
In another story when her and some friends went to get fish & chips, she said that she would pay, but didn’t have enough money in her account, so her eftpos was declined and they had to put some things back.
