The Leatherjacket

I really like this fish because it has a really cool horn on it's head.
It looks super cool and Mr Searle told me he has eaten one.
I saw one of these when my Dad's friend caught one at Nelson wharf.
It seemed to get on well with the pufferfish, maybe because they were both pretty ugly!
They could be a delicacy in China?
I like making our own hooks and touching some of the fish and sharks.

Mr puffer fish

The puffer fish was a delightful experience. He looked so funny with his BIG bulgy eyes ......I think I want a pet puffer fish. I also liked the eels and the wee baby sharks. The turtles were also kind of cool but we weren't allowed to touch them which is totally NOT cool.

Maori drilling at the aquarium

Wouter absolutely loved using this Maori drill.
He took about five minutes  to drill a big hole in the board.
The Maori could have made small holes in their fishing hooks with one of these.
I loved touching the tiger fish and the starfish.

Garin Guests and the "Human Knot' Challenge

This week we had some visiting speakers from Garin College's Outdoor Pursuits Club.
They talked to us about sustainability and gave us a challenge to reduce the amount of electricity, food packaging and fossil fuels like petrol we us in cars. Some of us are going to take up the challenge and we are going to remind Mr Searle to switch off the lights if they are not needed.

Then they taught us some team building activities.
The girls managed to untie the 'human knot' but the boys must have tied a granny knot as it just kept getting tighter and more complicated.
Ask the students to show you and see if the family can escape!!
Thanks Garin, you were great role models.

Bridgetts' Swimming

I know I'm really good and I'm really proud of myself.
We had nice swimming teachers, one of them was from Germany.

Sams Splendid Swimming

I tried my best and I think I am now better at breathing.
The best part about swimming is doing lengths and long distances.

Swimming Lessons-Awesome Instructors

We have been swimming hard all week.
Our instructors have been motivating us and reminding us of things to do to make us faster and more graceful swimmers. If the instructors say we have worked hard then Mr Searle gives us 5 minutes free time in the wave pool.

Welcome to our blog

Hi there.
Well done for finding our new blog page.
This is a sharing site where we will post some work samples and images of our activities and celebrate our achievements.
As the site develops we will post links to useful educational and fun sites which you can visit. We may also post some home-work activites to cut down on paper copies.
Parents; this is your chance to view what we are up to and give feedback which the students really appreciate.
Pass on the site and password to Aunties and Uncles so they can be involved in the children's learning.

Best Wishes
Paul Searle
